TIRUCHI: Sri Lankan Airlines is offering 1,100 return tickets between Colombo and 11 destinations in India at Rs.100 each to commemorate its achievement of operating hundred flights a week to India. The offer is exclusive for travellers from India and Sri Lanka, who book through the airlines’ website www.srilankan.aero Sri Lankan Airlines is said to be the first foreign airline to operate hundred flights a week to India. The airline reached the milestone when it added one more weekly flight to Tiruchi recently. Coimbatore became Sri Lankan Airlines’ 11th destination in India. Rapid connections were offered to Indian travellers to about 54 destinations in 28 countries through Colombo. The airline carried 1.1 million passengers to and from India during 2006-07, accounting for 35 per cent of its global passenger traffic. The airline had also entered into tie-ups, including one with the Kerala Tourism Department, to promote tourism in India, a press release issued here said. The airline was making a conscious effort to serve smaller cities in India from where travellers do not have direct access to air connections for international destinations. Special travel packages have been introduced for Indian customers, the release added.
