Ration rice seized

MADURAI: A team of Civil Supplies officials seized a lorry smuggling 200 bags of rice meant for public distribution system near Melamadai on Thursday. According to an official press release, the team was conducting an anti-smuggling drive on the Sivaganga Road when the lorry passed by. The vehicle, carrying rice valued at Rs.2.5 lakh, was seized and the driver, S. Mayilvahanan of Pollachi, and cleaner, Najibuddin, were held.
