Project for construction of roads cleared
Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI: The Union Cabinet’s Committee on Economic Affairs on Thursday cleared the construction of ring roads, bypasses, flyovers, and under-passes under phase VII of the National Highways Development Project at a cost of Rs.16,680 crore.
The expenditure would include improvement of the national highways and construction of grade-separated intersections, elevated roads, tunnels, road overbridges and service roads. The constructions would be undertaken on a BOT (build, operate and transfer) basis.
The government would contribute Rs.6,302 crore and the balance, Rs.10,378 crore, would come from the private sector. While Rs.10,500 crore would be spent on the construction of ring roads and by-passes, totalling 700 km, Rs.6,180 crore would be spent on standalone grade-separated intersections, elevated roads, tunnels, overbridges, under-passes and service roads.
The contracts for the construction of ring roads and bypasses are likely to be given by March 2011. The work would be finished by December 2014, a government spokesperson said.
