VISAKHAPATNAM: Anna University prevailed over Gandhigram University 25-21, 26-24, 25-22 to move up in the South Zone inter-university volleyball tournament at the Andhra University Golden Jubilee ground here on Thursday. Madhurai-Kamaraj beat Tumkur 25-16, 25-29, 25-22 while Karnatak rallied to beat Kuvempu 16-25, 25-23, 25-21, 25-21 in the afternoon. Only three matches were played during the inaugural day after all the nine matches in the morning session ended in walkovers. They were University of Kerala w/o University of Hyderabad; Bharatiyar w/o S.Ch.S.V.M., Kanchi; TN University of Physical Education w/o VTU, Bangalore; Alagappa w/o SVIMS, Tirupati; Pondicherry w/o TN University of Law; Tiruvallvar w/o IIIT, Hyd; Rajiv Gandhi UHS, Bangalore w/o VM University, Salem; Dr. NTR UHS, Vijayawada w/o Dravidian University, Kuppam; Sri Krishnadevaraya Univeirsty w/o NIT, Warangal. Sanghi for Asian meetAmit Sanghi will take part in the skeet competition, slated for December 11 and 12, in the ongoing Asian shooting championships in Kuwait. An individual and team gold winner at the Guwahati National Gamesr, he also took part in the Asian clay shooting championships at Manila, the Philippines. He won the South Zone shotgun championship for the fourth time in a row recently. The Kuwait event will be the last chance for shooters to obtain a quota place for the Beijing Olympics next year. Apart from regular practice, Sanghi has been undergoing physical and mental training in morning and evening sessions.
