Hariharan bowls Magnet to victory

CHENNAI: N. Hariharan (eight for 62) enabled Magnet script a 29-run win over Venkateswara in a third division ‘B’ zone encounter of the TNCA league here recently.

The scores:

III division: ‘B’ zone: Madras Port Trust 65 in 29.4 overs (Sivakumar six for 29) lost to Jupiter 66 for four in 17.4 overs.

TNEB 166 in 49.3 overs (R. Kalaimani four for 31) bt Appaiah Chettiar 121 in 44.5 overs.

Kohinoor 132 in 46.2 overs (Vinay Nahar 48 not out, Tariq 42, M. Subramaniam five for 39) lost to Netaji 133 for three in 26.5 overs (Balaji Ramanathan 75 not out).

Magnet 128 in 49.2 overs (Arumugam four for 32) bt Venkateswara 99 in 34.3 overs (N. Hariharan eight for 62).

Book Sellers 159 in 44.1 overs (P.R. Venkat Subramanian six for 43) bt Sridhar 128 in 38.4 overs (Madan Kumar five for 22).

Dunlop 179 in 48.5 overs (M.S. Raja 42, R. Sudharsanam four for 53) bt Garnet 126 in 40.4 overs (K. Rajesh 40, K. Arunaivel four for 39).

V division: ‘A’ zone: 20th Century 241 for nine in 50 overs (S. Padmanaban 42, R. Elango 42, V. Sugumar 41) bt Social 182 in 46 overs (V. B. Arun 58, B. Venkatesan four for 63).

‘B’ zone: Companions 230 in 47.1 overs (S. Rajesh 66, Sri Kumar 46, R. Raj Kumar four for 99) bt Eccentrics 81 in 32.4 overs.

Tennis tournament

The Presidency Club and the Madras Cricket Club will host the Karlsburg Presidency Chennai clubs tennis tournament on December 7, 8 and 9.

Six teams will participate in the second edition of the tournament, which will follow a doubles round-robin format before the semifinals on Saturday.

MCC, Cosmopolitan Club and Madras Club form Group A, while Presidency Club, Gymkhana Club and Gandhinagar Club form Group B, after the teams were drawn by Ramesh Krishnan at MCC on Wednesday. The top-two teams from each group will go through to the semifinals.

The round-robin matches will follow a best-of-fifteen-games format. The best of three tie-break sets will decide the semifinals and the final winners.

Members who’ve been ranked (State) in the last ten years are not eligible to participate. Presidency Club, which hosted the event last year, will host this edition’s final.
