Work on Palar project soon, says YSR

Staff Reporter

Tenders have been finalised for Rs. 57-crore project

Greeting masses: Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy waves to the crowd at the inauguration of ‘Rajiv Arogyasri’ scheme at Kuppam on Thursday, while Minister G. Aruna Kumari looks on.

KUPPAM (CHITTOOR DT.): Palar project, aimed at wetting 4000 acres of irrigation land and meeting the drinking water requirements of the Kuppam constituency is expected to be a reality soon as the Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy has announced that works pertaining to the project will be commissioned in a few weeks.

Brushing aside Tamil Nadu’s allegation that the State was going ahead unilaterally with the proposal, he sought to make it clear that the project would not be taken up at the cost of the lower riparian neighbour’s interests and that only the ‘rightful share’ of Kuppam would be utilised.

Mammoth meeting

Addressing a mammoth public meeting on Thursday at Kuppam, represented by his bete noire N. Chandrababu Naidu, the Chief Minister said that tenders had already been finalized for the Rs. 57 crore project.

Pooh-poohing Mr. Naidu’s charge that the Government was turning a blind eye to his constituency and throwing a spanner in the developmental works, Dr. Reddy insisted that it was his Government that had taken steps for its comprehensive development. The Chief Minister mentioned that the free power scheme benefited 25,000 farmers in this constituency alone.

Housing schemes

Stating that the Congress Government had initiated construction of 22,000 houses during the present regime and that work on another 8,000 houses would start by March next, he termed the talk on witch-hunting as ‘baseless’.

Deputy Speaker G. Kuthuhalamma, Chief whip N. Kirankumar Reddy, Ministers Anam Ramanarayana Reddy (Tourism), R. Chenga Reddy (Technical Education) and G. Aruna Kumari (Medical Education) and ZP Chairman M. Subramanyam Reddy were among those present.
