Good support for movement to unite different castes in the State Effort to emerge as the third political alternative in Andhra Pradesh HYDERABAD: Sarva Jana Sammelan, an initiative to bring different caste organisations on a common platform to fight for social justice and equality, is toying with the idea of emerging as a political party by 2009 Assembly elections. Speaking to reporters here on Thursday ahead of the proposed public meeting at Nizam College on December 9, former Advocate-General S. Ramachandra Rao claimed that the movement to bring different castes on to a common platform was receiving good support. Leaders of various political parties had been calling up and complimenting the initiative, he claimed. He said after the December 9 meeting, representatives of the sammelan would tour the districts and constitute panels. In the next three months, it was planned to mobilise public opinion before taking the plunge and announcing a political party. “Our effort is to emerge as the third political alternative in the State,” he said. Parleys onTo a question, he said BSP leaders were in consultation with him while representative of AP BC Association R. Krishnaiah, Mala Mahanadu’s Karem Sivaji and former State secretary of TDP P. N. V. Prasad openly came out in support of the movement. He said if actor Chiranjeevi floated a new party, the sammelan would strive to work closely with it.
