KARIMNAGAR: The Self-Employed Welfare Society (SEWS), a voluntary organisation funded by German agencies, in collaboration with Naandi foundation has decided to install 10 water purifier plants in 5 mandals of the upland Sircilla division to provide protected drinking water to the villagers. Each plant would be installed at a cost of Rs. 8 lakh. The SEWS would contribute Rs. 10 lakh, the State Government Rs. 20 lakh, the gram panchayats Rs. 10 lakh at the rate of Rs. 1 lakh each gram panchayat and Naandi foundation Rs. 40 lakh. Each plant would generate 1,000 litres of purified water and distributed to the villagers at the rate of only Rs. 2 per 20 litre bottle. Disclosing this to newsmen here on Thursday, SEWS chairman and NRI Dr. Ramesh Chennamaneni said that they would provide protected and safe drinking water to around one lakh villagers. The installation of water purifier plants would be completed within two months to supply pure water to the villagers, he added. Giving details about the SEWS services in the Sircilla sub-division, he said that they had taken up Rs. 48 crore worth developmental works including construction of over head water tanks to 100 villages to provide drinking water under Indo-German drinking water project, school buildings at a cost of Rs. 340 lakh, junior colleges in Rudrangi, Boinpalli and Vemulawada at Rs. 36. 50 lakh and lift irrigation schemes at a cost of Rs. 20 crore. The SEWS had also constructed watersheds and launched a crusade against the spread of AIDS and opened an urban health centre in Sircilla town. The SEWS had also decided to conduct a seminar on ‘Direct transfer of funds to the gram panchayats for the development of villages’ in Sircilla town on December 10.
