Sinha’s privilege notice against Manmohan

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: Senior BJP leader and former Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha has given a privilege notice against Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in the Rajya Sabha for making “untrue” remarks about him during the short duration discussion on the India-U.S. nuclear agreement in the House on Tuesday.

Mr. Sinha tried to raise the matter on Thursday during zero hour amid the pandemonium on the Babri Masjid issue. P.J. Kurien, who was in the Chair, said the notice was under the consideration of the Chairman.

Mr. Sinha told journalists that he was referring to Dr. Singh’s remarks during his intervention in the discussion on the deal.

Dr. Singh said that when Mr. Sinha went to Japan as Finance Minister he was not allowed to meet his counterpart.

Mr. Sinha said this was “completely untrue” as he never went to Japan when he was Finance Minister during the NDA rule. “During my tenure as Finance Minister in the Chandra Shekhar government, which is a 17-year-old story, I went to Japan and met my counterpart.”
