KOCHI: The monthly health review meeting was held here on Thursday in the absence of doctors in charge of medical institutions in the Kerala Health Services as they continue their non-cooperation strike demanding better pay scales. District Medical Officer K.T. Remani said health supervisors and health inspectors attended the meeting. However, it could not yield any target that the district met in immunisation, laparoscopic procedures, vasectomy, IUD camps and so on, which were taken up by doctors in charge of the primary health centres. They visited the sub-centres for these programmes. Every month, seven camps are held in six taluk hospitals and one in the district-level General Hospital for laparoscopic procedures. People coming to the district hospital for the service were attended to, Ms. Remani said. There are usually 10 to 12 cases in each camp, she added. Since the doctors are on strike, there are no daily reports of diseases in rural areas, she said. The strike has been on for two months now. The doctors believe that since they attend hospitals and health centres, their non-cooperation strike is not affecting people. It is the health coverage for VIPs and seasonal camps, such as those in Sabarimala, that are affected. Regarding training and medical camps that are held by the Health Services, most of them are an eyewash, since they are held to utilise the funds, said a member of the Kerala Government Medical Officers’ Association.
