NEW DELHI: A curtain of smog that hung over the Capital on Monday evening provided a premonition of what the citizens can expect as the winter gets cracking. And what’s more, rain is in the offing in the next few days. Rise in temperatureIt will be the same old story this time round as well, with blue skies becoming an increasingly rare sight as the days get shorter and the fog thicker. For now, however, the Meteorological Department has forecast shallow fog in the mornings and partly cloudy sky for Friday. The cloudy heavens will result in a slight rise in the minimum temperature forecast for Friday, which is expected to climb to 8 degrees Celsius. According to the Meteorological Department, the minimum temperature of 7.3 degree Celsius recorded on Thursday is expected to drop further in the next few days under the influence of a “western disturbance” hovering over Jammu and Kashmir. Western disturbances are low-pressure weather systems that bring in rain and snow thus plummeting temperature down a few notches in the surrounding regions. Though night-time visibility on the roads is moderately compromised, it is not yet impaired enough to send alarm bells ringing. Air traffic delays have been minimal and trains have been running on time. A couple of showers is all it would take to change all that.
