The qualifiers round of iGATE scrabble tournament begins today Bangalore: Scrabble is a mind sport that promotes logical thinking and analytical abilities. The game was developed during the 1930s Depression in America, and is now the world’s most popular word game. This family game is a great relaxant for stressed out people, and has over the years evolved into a highly competitive mind sport. iGATE Global Solutions, the Integrated Technology and Operations (iTOPS) company, in association with the Karnataka State Scrabble Association (KSSA), has announced the qualifier rounds to select Indian participants for the 4th iGATE International Scrabble Tournament. The Bangalore qualifiers will be held on Saturday and Sunday between 9.30 a.m. and 5 p.m. on the iGATE campus at 158-162 EPIP, Phase 2, Whitefield. Sixteen games, each of 50 minutes duration will be played. The word source will be Collins Scrabble Words, the official dictionary reference source for World Scrabble Championships. The qualifying round is open to any interested participant. There is no age bar. The iGATE tournament has become popular among the scrabble community in India and overseas. Top-ranked players from all over the world will be participating in iGATE International Scrabble Tournament 2008 to be held in January. The participants will be vying for a total prize of Rs. 4.5 lakh. In order to popularise the game in India and make it more competitive, iGATE is holding qualifier rounds in various cities before the international finals in January. iGATE has been actively associated with competitive scrabble in India starting with a National Open Scrabble Tournament in Bangalore in 2003.For more details, call 9886522120 or 253 67351.
