iPort will support port operations from cargo delivery to billing The system is in operation at three ports under Sharjah Ports Authority THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: IBS Software, a company based at the Technopark here, has signed a deal with the Maldives Port Authority for an IT-based operations management solution. The system, named iPort, will optimise the management of core operations at the port, reducing the throughput time of vessels and cargo. IBS was selected for the project on the basis of an international bid and detailed evaluation. iPort is a fully integrated port operations management system supporting the entire gamut of port operations from marine operations, cargo and container handling, yard operations and cargo delivery to billing. The system is currently in operation at three ports under the Sharjah Ports Authority, namely Mina Khalid, Khor Fakkan and Hamriyah. According to Chairman and CEO of the IBS group V.K. Mathews, iPort would help the Maldives Port Authority to achieve improved service and revenue. Commenting on the agreement, Managing Director of the Ports Authority Mahdi Imad said in a press note issued here on Friday that the new system was expected to help the port adapt to changing business needs. The primary port of call in the Republic of Maldives, the Port of Male, handles 90 per cent of the imports into the country. The paucity of yard and warehouse space has been a serious constraint for the port, making it difficult to track and trace cargo and containers. iPort has been designed to keep a close tab on cargo movement and plug revenue leakage. It would also provide foolproof invoicing. The IBS Group has established itself as a leading provider of it solutions to the global travel, transportation and logistics industry. Apart from Thiruvananthapuram, the company has software development centres at Kochi, Washington DC and London.
