Puducherry
In the news item published on December 7 under the title ‘IT developments should reach …,’ Chief Secretary to Puducherry Government Rakesh Behari was quoted as saying “e-governance was the panacea to reduce corruption in the country”. The quote should read: “We have passed the era when e-governance used to be the buzzword, which was more applauded than understood. In the eighties, when the humming notes of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) started doing rounds of our corridors of governance, many swore by e-governance as a panacea that would take us from Corruption Perception Index (CPI) of 3.3, given by Transparency International to somewhere close to the perfect score of 10. A period of 20 years has shown us that the country is still at the 70th rank in the Comity of 163 nations.”
