Sweaters given to students
Staff Reporter
NAMAKKAL: Collector G. Sundaramurthi distributed sweaters and caps to 500 students studying in the government schools in Kolli Hills here on Thursday.
A release said that Siruthuli, a non-governmental organisation, donated the cloths to the students. On the occasion, the Collector said that the literacy rate in Kolli Hills was 42 per cent, which was very low when compared to the district’s average of 67 per cent. He called upon the villagers to cooperate with the district administration in improving the literacy rate.
He said that the administration received mats, benches and tables as donation and distributed them to the schools and hostels in the hills. The administration also provided free power connection to the panchayat union primary school. Senior officials were present.
