PUDUCHERRY: The territorial administration has recommended to the Centre to order a Central Bureau of Investigation probe into seizure of rice meant for public distribution system outlets from the Puducherry railway station. Official sources said the Government made the recommendation as investigations by the Food Cell wing of the police had revealed the involvement of an “inter-State gang.” A huge quantity of rice was procured from various outlets in Tamil Nadu and stocked in private godowns in and around Puducherry. It was being smuggled to Andhra Pradesh, Assam and Bangladesh through the Puducherry railway station for the last three years, the sources said. — Staff Reporter
