Tambaram terminus project: IAF team inspects alternative sites
K. Manikandan
TAMBARAM: A team of officials from the Air Headquarters, New Delhi, and the Indian Air Force Station, Tambaram, on Thursday inspected three sites that the Department of Municipal Administration and Water Supply has proposed as alternative sites for the 30 acres of land needed for the Tambaram bus terminus project.
The Tambaram Municipality and the State government have been seeking the Ministry of Defence’s consent to part with 30 acres of land in Civil Lines, West Tambaram, for constructing the terminus there.
On Thursday, officials of the Department of Municipal Administration and Water Supply took the IAF officers to the three sites that have been proposed to be handed over to IAF in return for 30 acres of land in Civil Lines. All the three proposed sites are located adjacent to the periphery of the Tambaram Air Force Station.
The IAF officers told municipal authorities that their proposal would be forwarded to Air Headquarters and that a final communication had to come from there.
The joint inspection is significant considering that recently the Defence Ministry agreed to sanction 4.26 acres of its land to the State Highways Department for completing pending works on a subway in Meenambakkam (LC No. 19), a road over bridge in Pallavaram (LC No. 24) and a portion of Inner Ring Road in Pazhavanthangal.
