Colour television sets distributed

Around 41,838 more sets to be given by the end of the third phase

Chennai: Mayor M. Subramanian gave away colour television sets to poor families in Park Town and R.K. Nagar Assembly constituencies during the third phase of distribution on Thursday.
Mr. Subramanian said 76,661 TV sets have already been distributed in Chennai and 41,838 more sets would be distributed by the end of the third phase of distribution.
On Tuesday, Electricity Minister Arcot N. Veeraswami gave away TV sets to beneficiaries in Anna Nagar constituency. In this constituency alone, 5,402 sets have been given away and 4,356 would be given during the current phase, he said.
Pension benefits
Several former Chennai Corporation employees received pending pension benefits totalling Rs.1.12 crore on Tuesday. About 40 beneficiaries received the cheques from the Mayor.
In the past few months, the Corporation has distributed Rs.13.22 crore in pending pension benefits to 686 former employees and their families.
