dated December 8, 1957: Expansion of NCC

The informal consultative committee of members of Parliament on defence at its meeting in New Delhi on December 5 is understood to have called for energetic steps being taken to strengthen the Auxiliary Cadet Corps, the National Cadet Corps and the Territorial Army. Prime Minister Nehru, who presided over the meeting, reviewed the progress of these organisations and is understood to have said that the progress of expansion of the A.C.C. and the N.C.C. had been slower than scheduled, mainly because of lack of funds at the State level.
