Meet focusses on SME business development

KOCHI: At the 7th Commonwealth-India Business Competitiveness Development Programme, the focus of discussions on Friday was indigenous business in SME development and perspectives on this from the Commonwealth.
Selima Ahmad from the Bangladesh Women’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry chaired the first session of the day after the delegates visited the India International Coir Fair-2007.
The session took a look at various strategies adopted for the development of indigenous businesses and business groups in the SME sector, with specific emphasis on gender.
The Kuthambakkam Experience, was presented by Rangasamy Elango, managing trustee of Trust for Village Self Government, and Integrated Marketing Development for Fresh Fruit Juice, a case study from Kenya, was presented by Jane Mung’oma, Kenya.
P.M. Mathew, Director of Institute of Small Enterprises and Development, made a presentation on social enterprises.
