AOC Centre wins title

HYDERABAD: AOC Centre defeated Artillery Centre 1-0 in the final of the M.A. Quddus memorial invitation hockey tournament at the Gymkhana Grounds here on Friday. AOC scored the winner in the 57th minute through left-out Somra Horo off a fine solo effort.

Special cash prizes of Rs. 500 each were sponsored by Abdul Sayeed Khan to Junas Ekka of Artillery (highest scorer in the event), Hassan Bin Mohsin (best up-and-coming goalkeeper). Syed Mustafa, secretary of Young Hyderabad Club, presented track suits to Kiran Prasad (AOC) and Tomba Singh (Artillery Centre).

Meanwhile, HHA informed that the B-Division league championship would commence from December 11 at Gymkhana Grounds.

Rajesh bags double

D. Rajesh of Government College of Physical Education won a double winning the triple jump and long jump events in thee OU inter-collegiate athletics meet at its premises here.

Women: 200m: K. Mrudula (Kasturba) 26.40s; 800m: V. Durga (OU Women’s College) 2:34.50s; 400m hurdles: Jhansi Rani (Kasturba) 1:15.1s; Shot put: J. Swathi (Villa Marie) 8.53m; Triple jump: K. Kumari (GCPE) 8.83m.

Easy for Manikumar XI

Manikumar XI recorded an 87-run win over Raju’s Cricket Club in the B-Division one-day knock-out cricket tournament here.

The scores: Manikumar 230 for four (Sainath 52, Nagarjuna 53, A.S. Reddy 57, Sridhar 56, Mahesh four for 39) bt Raju’s CC 143 (Mahesh 53, Rajender four for 17, Srikanth four for 22); Sportive 258 for nine (R. Sandeep 61, C. Abhiman 50) bt Sungrace 137 (Vishwanath 40, Arvind Yadav five for 29).

Sathiyan triumphs

G. Sathiyan of Kola Perumal School (Chennai) won the boys under-16 singles title defeating Rajath Kumar of Sachdeva School (Delhi) 11-9, 12-10, 12-10, 11-4 in the final of the CBSE National schools table tennis tournament at Fateh Maidan Indoor Stadium here on Friday.

Volleyball trials

Hyderabad District Volleyball Association will organise selection trials for boys and girls (under-18 years) on December 10 at the Musheerabad Playground to pick the district teams. Players born on or after January 1, 1990 are eligible to attend and for details contact M.B. Narsimloo at the venue.

Munsiff XI posts win

Munsiff XI scored an easy 5-2 win over Dhanjraj XI in the Susai memorial football tournament at Trimulgherry Grounds here. Azeem’s self-goal gave Munsiff the early lead and later Moazam (2), Ali Khan and Jaleel scored for the winner. Yousuf and Raghu reduced the margin.

Manipur wins gold

Manipur women won the 3km team pursuit event clocking 4 min 11.560 sec in the National cycling championship at OU velodrome here on Friday.
