Maiden title for St. Paul’s

KOCHI: St. Paul’s College, the host, defeated Kottayam’s CMS College by 16 runs and won its maiden Mahatma Gandhi University inter-zone cricket title at Kalamassery on Friday evening.

Abdul Samath (66) and Hanson (three for 24) starred for the victor.

St. Albert’s (Ernakulam) defeated defending champion Maharaja’s (Ernakulam) by six wickets and finished third.

Jayesh George, the Ernakulam District Cricket Association Secretary, gave away the prizes.

The scores: St. Paul’s (Kalamassery) 196 for six in 25 overs (Abdul Samath 66) bt CMS (Kottayam) 180 for nine in 25 overs (K.J. Rakesh 91, Jithin 41); Maharaja’s (Ernakulam) 153 for nine in 25 overs (Juno 46) lost to St. Albert’s (Ernakulam) 157 for four in 23 overs (Irfan 45). — Principal Correspondent
