Prison term confirmed to man for killing daughter
Staff Reporter
BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court on Friday refused to interfere with a lower court order sentencing a resident of Narasimharajapura in Chikamagalur district to life imprisonment for brutally killing his daughter.
The High Court not only confirmed the lower court order but said that it saw no reason to disbelieve the testimony or evidence of the son against his own father.
According to the State, Nagaraj had fallen victim to several vices. All efforts by his family to reform him went in vain. Nagaraj, the State said, was putting pressure on his wife and children to give him money.
On November 18, 2003 when Nagaraj’s wife and children were at home, he asked his daughter, Tejaswini, for money and picked a quarrel with her and others.
A little later, Nagaraj’s wife and son went of the house, leaving Tejaswini behind. When Nagaraj’s son returned home, he saw his father hacking Tejaswini with a machete. Tejaswini died on the spot.
The Fast Track Court 6, Chikamagalur, had sentenced Nagaraj to life imprisonment. Nagaraj had appealed against the verdict in the High Court.
