Slow pace of the campaign worries party leadership A target of enrolling four lakh members fixed BANGALORE: As part of its poll preparation, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has decided to take up a special drive from December 25 to January 12 to complete formation of booth-level committees. The party is concerned over the slow progress of the programme. Although the programme was launched on August 19, the party has been able to constitute such panels in only 40 per cent of the booths. Each committee will have 10 members comprising professionals like doctors, women and members from different communities. According to sources, the party leaders are of the view that such panels have worked wonders for the party in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh. A decision regarding the launching of a special drive is expected to be taken at the party’s State executive meeting to be held in Davangere on December 11 and 12. The ensuing elections to the Legislative Assembly is going to be the main subject of discussion at the two-day executive. Sources said the party would review its poll preparations, including the feedback regarding its “Jana Jagruthi” campaign besides chalking out future course of action. It would analyse reports from the district-level executive committees regarding party organisation. Meanwhile, the BJP Yuva Morcha on Friday launched a State-level membership enrolment drive. The drive, which was inaugurated by party State unit president D.V. Sadananda Gowda has set a target of enrolling four lakh members. The morcha has set up special counters in front of colleges, hostels, stadia, call centres and factories to enable youth to enrol themselves with it. Inaugurating the enrolment drive, Mr. Sadananda Gowda said the former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda did not have any weapons in his armoury though he had threatened to expose irregularities involving BJP leaders.
