Ajay Patil strikes it rich, taking home three titles

BANGALORE: Ajay Patil walked away with three titles in the Bowring Institute State-ranking badminton championship which concluded at the club courts here on Friday.

Ajay, who won the under-16 singles title beating Vinay Hari 21-18, 20-22, 21-12, also won the under-16 and the under-19 doubles titles parnering R.N. Suraj.

The results (all finals):

Boys: under-10 singles: Mithin Manjunathbt Abhishek Sonware 21-4, 21-13. Under-13 singles: M.C. Srivas bt Sudfeep Suresh 21-12, 21-8. Doubles: Vishwanath Kiran & M.C. Srivas bt Sudeep Suresh & Niranjan 21-11, 21-12.

Under-16 singles: Ajay patil bt Vinay Hari 21-18, 20-22, 21-12. Doubles: Ajay Patil & R.N. Suraj bt Vinay Hari & Ashwin 21-12, 21-17. Under-19 singles: Prakash Jolly bt M.D. Anup Kiran 21-10, 21-13. Doubles: Ajay Patil & R.N. Suraj bt Sunil Varma & Swaroop 23-21, 18-21, 21-11.

Girls: Under-13 singles: Rehma Karthik bt B. Sindhu 21-15, 21-14. Doubles: Reshma Karthik & Anisha Karumbaiah bt Sangeetha & Poorvisha 21-12, 21-15.

PCTC posts win

Pioneer Corps Training Centre (PCTC) notched up a facile 4-1 win over Rail Wheel Factory in the State ‘A’ division league hockey tournament here on Friday.

Manju (23rd) and Shriram Singh (35th) scored before the break for PCTC and Kalyan Kumar (45th) and Cyprian Aind (53rd) doubled the score in the second half.

Jayraj (44th) scored RWF’s only goal.

Dhanraj Ballal Hockey Academy carved out a 3-1 win over Coorg Blues with Shariff (23rd) taking full advantage of a penalty stroke in a scrappy first-half.

Ponappa (49th) slotted the second goal for DBHA and Poonacha (52nd) kept Coorg Blues’ hopes alive briefly.

Naveen Shekar (54th) sealed off the result for DBHA.

Earlier, Madras Engineering Group ‘B’ and Army Services Corps played out a 1-1 draw.

Bopanna (28th) scored first for MEG ‘B’ and P. Horo (40th) slammed the equaliser.

There will be three matches on Saturday.

Modern Boys gets walk-over

Modern Boys got a walk-over from Goan FC in the C Division Football league at the 515 Army Base workshop ground at Bangalore on Friday.

Collegiate exams was cited as a reason for the Goan FC failing to field a team.
