Zilla Panchayat president to visit villages

rain promised

DAVANGERE: The president and vice-president of the Davangere Zilla Panchayat, along with officials of various departments, will visit at least four villages in each zilla panchayat constituency from next month and take steps to provide solutions to people’s problems, Y. Ramappa, president of the panchayat, has said.

Addressing a public gathering at a function organised as part of the zilla panchayat village inspection programme at Chikkaujjaini village bordering Jagalur taluk of Davangere district and Koodligi taluk of Bellary district on Thursday, Mr. Ramappa said the panchayat had realised that many villages were still underdeveloped and people were unaware of various schemes and benefits offered by the Government.

Benefits

He criticised officials for not informing the people in small and remote villages of the benefits available and said that the panchayat had introduced the inspection drive to bring people into the fold of the administration.

He and the vice-president would hear the grievances of people during the visits and direct officials to take appropriate action. The responsibility of ensuring comprehensive development of villages would lie with the officials, Mr. Ramappa said.

The panchayat would examine whether basic facilities such as drinking water supply, hospitals and roads had been provided, he said. Mr. Ramappa sanctioned widow pension to 22 women, eight Ashraya houses to beneficiaries and two oxen to two villages under different schemes. He also distributed kits under the Madilu scheme during the village inspection programme.

Earlier, Mr. Ramappa interacted with the people of the village. He also assured those whose houses had collapsed owing to rain that new ones would be built for them.

Deputy Secretary of the zilla panchayat Rudrappa, Joint Director Shivamurthappa, Deputy Director of Public Instruction Chandrashekar, District Health Officer Banakar and Executive Officer Venkatesh were present.
