SHIMLA: After pledging to continue its struggle against the pro-liberalisation policies of the BJP and the Congress, the Himachal unit of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) released its election manifesto at a simple ceremony here on Friday. The party, which is contesting just seven seats in the elections being held later this month, promised to fight on people’s issues and struggle in the common interest of the masses. Party secretary Rakesh Singha along with some State Committee members released the manifesto. It promises to struggle to get the State’s share of 7.19 per cent after the Punjab Re-organisation Act and a 12 per cent distress cost from various hydro-electric projects. The party would fight to get the compensatory money after the nationalisation of forests and for increasing its share in the power projects being constructed in the state. The earlier Congress and BJP governments had sold the interests of the State and agreed for just 5 per cent equity participation in major power projects, charged Mr. Singha. The State can become debt-free if it gets the distress cost of Rs.5,500 crore as specified by the Rangnath Commission and get a 30 per cent stake in the power projects, he added. The party has underlined the need to strengthen the service sector in Himachal .
