UDUMALPET: Lt. General Noble Thamburaj, Army Commander of Southern Command, on Friday appreciated the role of Sainik schools in nation building.
At the annual day celebrations at Sainik School, Amaravathi Nagar, near here, Mr. Thamburaj said Sainik schools produced good leaders in different walks of life while other schools produced good citizens.
An alumnus of the school, Mr. Thamburaj termed his stay there as the turning point in his life. He said that he learnt perseverance and hard work there.
Noting that the teachers were the strength of any school, he asked the teachers to identify talents in each and every cadet and nurture them. He asked the cadets to choose their future which they considered good irrespective of their parents’ wishes. “This century is full of opportunities and if you are talented sky is the limit for you in any field.”
Mr. Thamburaj said a state-of-the-art basketball court with synthetic surface would be set up on the school premises. He presented a cash prize of Rs.1 lakh to the school besides extending a grant of Rs. 2.5 lakh. Principal S.H. Samuel presented the annual report. He said nine students had been selected for the National Defence Academy in July 2007.
