Tirupur registers 13 per cent growth in direct tax collection Payment of advance tax should be encouraged TIRUPUR: Commissioner of Income Tax-III, Coimbatore, Rajani Kant Gupta, has said that Tirupur range has registered a growth of 13 per cent in direct tax collection against the all India growth of around 45 per cent, till October. Interacting with presidents and secretaries of various trade bodies, including Tirupur Exporters’ Association, South India Hosiery Manufacturers’ Association, Tirupur Chamber of Commerce and Industry here on Thursday, Mr. Gupta sought their cooperation to catch up with the all India growth rate. SIHMA president Mohan P. Kandasamy and TEA secretary G. Karthikeyan among others explained the crisis being faced by the exporting community and textile industry because of the depreciation of dollar and price anomaly of cotton and yarn. Mr. Gupta told them that still there was scope for Tirupur range to achieve the all India growth rate of direct tax collection. He said tax payers should comply with various provisions of the IT laws including Tax Deduction at Source and payment of advance tax. He asked the office-bearers of various associations to impress upon their members to pay advance tax instalments promptly to avoid action against them. Later, Mr. Gupta told reporters that the department would render all assistance to Tirupur tax payers. Tax evaders would be dealt with firmly. The meeting was followed by interaction with senior members of the Auditors Association of Tirupur. Mr. Gupta said the target for direct tax collection, including TDS, for Tirupur this fiscal was Rs.381 crore against the previous year’s Rs. 280 crore. The achievement up to October 31 was Rs.121crore, which is 13 per cent higher than that collected during the corresponding period of previous year. He said that though growth of TDS stood at 31 per cent, so far, this fiscal, the payment of advance tax and other collections were not satisfactory.
