SSA scam: CID told to widen scope of probe

HYDERABAD: The House Committee probing irregularities in the District Primary Education Programme funds has directed the State to widen the scope of the investigation.

Committee chairman Nadendla Manohar (Congress), at a meeting with officials here on Friday, said that all the accounts concerning the DPEP and SSA funds should be thoroughly checked. Suspecting more misuse of funds in the districts, the panel said that it is necessary for the CID to go into the minute details of the expenditure. The panel members were of the opinion that after all a cursory look at the spending exposed existence of fictitious accounts in two banks and misuse of funds to the tune of Rs. 14 cr. Members once again decried the “lackadaisical attitude” of the officials in answering their questions. Sources said panel member S. Ramalinga Reddy (TRS) faulted the CID for going slow in the investigation and for not interrogating senior officials so far.
