Gold ornaments worth Rs. 50 lakh seized

CHENNAI: Officials of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized six kilograms of gold ornaments, worth Rs. 50 lakh, at the Anna International Terminal from a group of passengers who arrived from Singapore on Friday.

A release said the group, mostly workers, were given small packets of gold ornaments with some Singapore dollars to be taken to Chennai.

The group had to hand over the ornaments and the money to persons waiting outside the airport, for which they were promised money, the release said. The officials also seized 6,500 Singapore dollars from the group. Further investigation is on, the release added.
