Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha and senior BJP leader L.K. Advani addressing a press conference in New Delhi on Friday. NEW DELHI: Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha L.K. Advani said here on Friday that he would not like to say anything on Gujarat government counsel K.T.S. Tulsi’s observation that Chief Minister Modi’s comments on the killing of Sohrabuddin Sheikh amounted to “incitement of street violence” and he would withdraw from the case. Mr. Advani demanded that the Election Commission take note of the BJP’s complaint against Ms. Gandhi’s remarks and issue notice to her as it had done in the case of Mr. Modi. “There should be no double standards,” he said. He reiterated what his party colleagues said earlier: Mr. Modi’s remarks were provoked by Ms. Gandhi’s comments. When it was put to Mr. Advani that senior BJP leader Keshubhai Patel had described Mr. Modi as a “Hitler, who was, if anybody was, a merchant of death,” he said the word ‘Hitler’ was used to describe a dictatorial attitude and Mr. Patel was only referring to that (and not to more than a million Jews gassed to death). The BJP had no problem with Mr. Modi being described as a ‘Hitler.’ It had not complained to the Election Commission about Mr. Patel’s remark. Mr. Advani was asked whether he was defending the Chief Minister’s remarks because he himself, as Gandhinagar MP, was “dependent” on Mr. Modi. “This is the first time I am hearing this thing,” he responded. “If some of my colleagues become popular with the people, I am happy.”
