North and Central share lead

CHENNAI: Defending champion Central Zone and North Zone lead the table with 5.5 points each at the end of the second round of the all-India Ordnance Factories inter-zonal chess tournament, organised by Engine Factory Sports Council (Avadi), at Bhishma Club here on Friday.

Important results (second round): S. Biswas (East)-1 lost to D.R. Jaiswal (Central)-2; O.P. Yadav (Central)-1 lost to Prem Babu (North Zone)-2.

J. Suresh Lal (South Zone)-2 bt Venugopalan (South)-1; Sinha Sudhir Kumar (Central)-1.5 bt Bhaskaran (South)-0.5; Bahadur Rajesh (Central)-1 drew with R.S Negi (North)-1; P.K. Dutta (East)-0.5 lost to M.K. Arora (North)-1.5.

G.L. Dutta (East)-1 bt G. Vivekanandan (South)-1; S.A Ansari (East)-0 lost to Dhirendra Kumar (North)-1.

Chess classes

Jayavidya Chess Academy will conduct classes for children aged between 6 and 15 years from December 8 at the Vijayabharathi MHSS, Vadapalani, and V.S. Rao MHSS, T. Nagar.
