ALL IN THE HEAD: New Team India coach Gary Kirsten has already been very vocal about the need for mental conditioning.

Bangalore: Gary Kirsten, India’s newly appointed coach, arrived in the city on Friday evening. Speaking to the media at the airport, Kirsten said that he looked forward to the challenge of coaching Team India.

“It is a great honour to be appointed as coach by the BCCI. I will stay here for three days and interact with the players and the support staff,” Kirsten said.

The former South African batsman spoke about the need for mental conditioning. “Cricket is also a mental game and I will work on that aspect with the Indian team. Yes I will be going to Australia with the team,” Kirsten said.

Later he visited the team hotel, avoiding the media while a tight security cordon, rudely kept the photographers at bay.

Anil Kumble’s men were busy in a team-meeting when the new coach arrived at the hotel.

Later, the team left for a dinner party at Kumble’s home.

Kirsten will interact with the team during the first three days of the third Test before leaving for South Africa.
