BANGALORE: Burglars struck at two mobile phone showrooms in the city and looted 110 handsets worth Rs. 6.5 lakh and Rs. 10,000 in cash. The police said the thieves cut the ventilator grills of the toilet of a mobile phone showroom on BEL Road and made away with 95 handsets, together worth Rs. 5.50 lakh on Wednesday night. The theft came to light on Thursday. On a complaint by the proprietor of the shop, Abdul Rehman, the Sanjaynagar police have registered a case. In the other incident, thieves entered a mobile phone showroom on Chunchugatta Main Road, off Konanakunte, on Thursday night by breaking open the rolling shutters and decamped with 15 handsets and Rs. 10,000 cash. On a complaint by the owner of the showroom, Saravana Kumar, the Subramanyapura police have registered a case. KilledAn employee of a newspaper office was killed in a road accident in Obalappa Garden at Thyagarajanagar around 11.15 p.m. on Thursday. The police gave his name as Siddaraju (28), an office assistant in a Kannada daily. Around 11.15 p.m., a motorcycle rammed the scooter on which Siddaraju, a resident of Shastrinagar, was riding pillion with his friend Yogesh. Following the collision, Yogesh fell unconscious and Siddaraju was killed on the spot. Siddaraju’s relatives suspect that he could have been murdered as there were deep stab wounds on his face and neck. The Banashankari traffic police have registered a case and are awaiting the autopsy report to confirm the cause of death. MurderedAnnayyapa (42), a farmer, was killed when his friend Anjanappa allegedly punched him following a petty quarrel in Sarjapur police station limits on Thursday night. The police said Annayappa and Anjanappa, both residents of Chikkadasanahalli, were returning to their village after a drink. The two, who were travelling by a KSRTC bus, were forced to disembark midway at Boothaganahalli as they had not bought tickets. This led to a quarrel and Anjanappa allegedly punched Annayappa, killing him on the spot. The incident came to light on Friday morning. The Sarajapur police have registered a case of murder and arrested Anjanappa (38). SuicideManjula (24) committed suicide by hanging herself from a tree near a temple situated close to her house at Kakkasandra in Peenya police station limits on Thursday night. The police said Manjula’s parents were on the lookout for her since Thursday night as she had not returned home. On Friday morning, passers-by found Manjula’s body hanging from a tree and informed her father Rame Gowda. The Peenya police, who have registered a case, said Manjula was dejected in life. ArrestedThe High Grounds police have arrested a man from Orissa and recovered from him Rs. 12 lakh in cash that was stolen from a businessman’s house in Vasanthnagar here. The police said that on November 22, three men from Orissa stole the cash from their employer A.V. Rukhana’s car, after smashing its windscreens. The police learnt that they had kept the cash with Chaitanya Pradhan in Kendrapara district of Orissa. A police team arrested Pradhan (38) from his village in Kendrapara district and recovered the cash from him. The police are on the lookout for the three who had stolen the money.
