NEW DELHI: Three men, including a municipal councillor of Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh, have been arrested by the South Delhi police on charges of auto-lifting. The police claim to have seized eight vehicles from them. The arrests were made last month. The accused were identified as Zaffar Hussain Khan, Imtiyaz Ahmed and Firoz Khan. A stolen Santro car was allegedly recovered from them. The police said they were going to deliver the car to Manzoor Khan, a resident of Jammu and Kashmir. During interrogation, Zaffar allegedly disclosed that he was a municipal councillor of Moradabad. He allegedly used to receive stolen vehicles from Nasir Kamal and disposed them of to Imtiyaz, Firoz and Manzoor, all residents of Jammu and Kashmir. Zaffar allegedly used to get Rs.25,000 to Rs.35,000 per vehicle as his share. The police said he also disposed of vehicles to Guddu Warsi, a resident of Bareilly in UP. Guddu is wanted in 50 cases of auto-lifting. According to the police, Zaffar was previously arrested in cases of auto-lifting in the Capital. He was elected municipal councillor in 2006. The accused was allegedly part of the Anil Chauhan gang said to be involved in more than 400 cases of auto-lifting. It disposes of stolen vehicles in Nepal, North-East India, Uttarakhand and J&K. Anil has been declared a proclaimed offender in several cases.
