College principal’s suspension mooted
Staff Reporter
NEW DELHI: The Governing Body of Shaheed Bhagat Singh College on Friday recommended suspension of Principal Jitinder Kaur for “financial and administrative irregularities” during her term.
The extended Governing Body which met in the Vice-Chancellor’s Office has decided to institute an inquiry headed by a retired Delhi High Court judge into the charges levelled against Dr. Kaur. She will remain suspended pending the outcome of the inquiry. Asked if he had ratified the Governing Body’s decision, Vice-Chancellor Deepak Pental said he could not comment on it as he had not received the papers so far. Last week Dr. Kaur had been sent on a week’s leave after she claimed that a fact-finding committee that indicted her had “not considered” some representations made by her.
The committee had recommended her suspension as she was found guilty of financial bungling, defiance of authorities and administrative lapses.
The Principal of Shaheed Bhagat Singh College (Evening), P. Khurana, will continue to maintain charge of the morning college for one more week, during which time the University would be asked to suggest the names for heading the institution.
