VIPs challaned

NEW DELHI: Vehicles of over two-dozen VIPs were challaned by the Delhi traffic police during a drive against wrong parking in Connaught Place here on Friday. In all, 300 vehicles were challaned during the 90-minute exercise.
Those whose vehicles were found parked in the “no-parking” zone included senior officials of the Central and State governments, including some of joint secretary and secretary rank; diplomats of four embassies; and politicians. The vehicle of an MLA was also challaned.
The drive,covered Janpath, Barakhamba Road, Baba Kharak Singh Marg and Kasturba Gandhi Marg. A challan amount of Rs.600 was collected from each of the offenders and 35 vehicles were impounded, for which Rs.800 was charged per vehicle.
