Traffic jam in East Delhi

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: Motorists driving towards the heart of the Capital from East Delhi had a harrowing time reaching their destinations on Friday morning because of a massive traffic jam on the Nizamuddin bridge. The jam apparently was caused by a truck that broke down on the Nizamuddin bridge around 8 a.m., blocking the passage of vehicles during the peak morning hour.“The jam was unprecedented. I reached my office in Connaught Place almost two hours late. The trouble could have been avoided had the traffic police acted in time and towed the truck away,” said Ms. Deepali Gupta, a tax consultant.

Other motorists had a similar tale to tell. “At one point, the jam extended from the Nizamuddin bridge to Ghazipur close to the U.P. border. I was stuck for over two hours,” said Rajnikant Verma, who owns a shop in South Delhi.
