PANAJI: Goa Bachav Abhiyan (GBA) on Friday appealed to all gram panchayats in the State to hold gram sabhas on December 19 (Goa Liberation Day) and pass a resolution seeking scrapping of Special Economic Zone (SEZ) projects in Goa. Convenor of the GBA Oscar Rebello told presspersons that the GBA opposed SEZ projects and wanted the people to pass resolutions in gram panchayats to convey to the State Government their opposition to such projects. He recalled how people’s power last year forced the then Government to scrap its controversial State Regional Plan, which could have proved disastrous to the State’s interests. Several organisations and political parties were against allowing SEZ projects in the State, he said.
