New look: High Court Judge K. Sridhar Rao unveiling a plaque to mark the inauguration of the renovated court complex at Kalghatgi in Dharwad district on Saturday. Pralhad Joshi, MP, is seen. HUBLI: K. Sridhar Rao, Judge of the High Court of Karnataka, has said that there is an urgent need for strengthening the legal system for speedy disposal of cases at affordable cost. He was speaking after inaugurating the renovated court complex housing the civil court (junior division) and first division judicial magistrate court at Kalghatgi in Dharwad district on Saturday. Mr. Rao recalled the negotiations he had in Kalghatgi taluk in 1994 for resolving many of the pending cases amicably. He said there was a need for formulating policies that ensured special facilities, subsidies and incentives to farmers on the lines of those in force in western countries. “The progress of the country is possible only when farmers lead a happy life,” he added. Presiding over the function, Pralhad Joshi, MP, said nearly 21 lakh cases were pending in various high courts. Mr. Joshi said that he would take up the matter of providing additional building to house the civil judge (senior division) court, with the district administration. V.B. Shivanagoudra, president of the Kalghatgi Bar Association, welcomed the gathering. Principal district and sessions judge P.D. Vaingankar, civil judge of Kalghatgi Manjunath, former MLA S.I. Chikkanagoudar, and vice-president of the State Bar Council Mohan Limbikai were present.
