PUDUCHERRY: Chief Minister N. Rangasamy on Friday said that the government would take steps to speed up the process of land acquisition for various projects. Speaking at the inaugural of a training programme on mediation for advocates, he said that the government had recently set up a committee to look into matters pertaining to land acquisition. The government should ensure that land owners are satisfied with the price they get. This would help prevent cases being filed by unsatisfied land owners, he said. Mr. Rangasamy also called upon more advocates to train in mediation. In her special address, Judge of the Madras High Court and Portfolio Judge for Puducherry Justice Chitra Venkatraman said mediation was a concept that had been accepted throughout the world and it helped to resolve long-pending civil disputes and company matters. Judges of the Madras High Court Justices V. Dhanapalan and Prafulla Kumar Misra said that mediation offered a win-win situation for both the parties to the matter. Member Secretary of the Union Territory of Puducherry Legal Services Authority and District Judge D. Ramabathiran also spoke.
