KSPHC adopts project management practices

e-tendering introduced in 2003


Belgaum: The Karnataka State Police Housing Corporation (KSPHC) has carved out a niche for itself in best project management practices in the country, according to R. Sri Kumar, Chairman and Managing Director of the organisation.

Floated 22 years ago to provide infrastructure support to the Police and Prisons departments and the Fire and Emergency Services, the organisation has received several awards. They include the Golden Peacock Awards for Corporate Social Responsibility (2005), Eco Innovation (2006) and Management (2006) and Green Building certification by the Green Building Council of the U.S. for constructing the country’s first green building in the government sector. It also got an Excellence in the Fields of Housing and Human Settlements citation along with a cash award of Rs. 2 lakh from the Government of India and the Forest, Ecology and Environment Award (2007-08) from the State Government.

Speaking about the aims and objectives of the KSPHC at a symposium on ‘Project Management’ here on Friday, Mr. Sri Kumar observed that the concept of project management was yet to get due importance in the country. However, the KSPHC had evolved its own concepts and achieved remarkable success in terms of efficiency, transparency through e-tendering, speed, quality, quantity, cost-effectiveness and competitiveness.

The introduction of e-tendering in February 2003 was an improvement on the conventional manual tendering process. The KSPHC also implemented a Web-based project management system.So far, the corporation has constructed 16,038 residential buildings and 721 non-residential buildings at a cost of Rs. 435.34 crore for the Police and Prisons departments and the Fire and Emergency Services, he said.

Regional Commissioner Amita Prasad, who inaugurated the symposium, complimented the corporation for its impressive achievements. Inspector-General of Police, Northern Range, Raghavendra Auradkar and Superintendent of Police Hemant Nimbalkar were present.
