HIDDEN AWAY: The boats seized in a raid against illegal sand-mining from River Manimala in Thiruvalla taluk on Saturday. PATHANAMTHITTA: In an extensive raid against illegal sand-mining in River Manimala, a Revenue-Police joint team led by Thiruvalla Sub-Collector Pranab Jyotinath seized 14 country-boats used for river sand smuggling on Saturday. The joint team conducted raids at 40 locations on River Manimala following allegations of large-scale, unchecked sand-mining activity. The raid party hired engine-fitted boats for conducting the raids. According to official sources, six boats were seized from the vicinity of the Thondra Bridge on MC Road in Kuttoor panchayat. A group of environmentalists also joined the raid party.
