Water vending machine set up at railway station Customers can fill the water in their own container BANGALORE: For those wary of drinking water available on railway platforms and at the same time unwilling to buy packaged drinking water, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has come up with a solution. The corporation would provide purified drinking water at an affordable price, beginning from Bangalore City Railway Station. One such machine was inaugurated on Thursday on Platform 8 at the City Railway Station by Divisional Railway Manager Mahesh Mangal. Ion Exchange (India) Ltd., which offers water purifiers under Zero B brand-name, has installed the machines. The company said water was supplied after multistage purification process with micron filtration. The machine dispensed specified quantity of chilled, normal and hot water, as per the requirement of the customer. While 300 ml water is priced Re. 1, 500 ml water is available for Rs. 2, one litre for Rs. 3, two litres for Rs. 6 and 5 litres for Rs. 12. The customer has the option to fill the water in his own container or buy a container (glass/ bottle) at extra cost. IRCTC regional manager S. Gagarin told presspersons that the corporation intended to install more such machines. He said the Railways planned to offer safe water through reverse osmosis technology plants.
