PMK will oppose foreign firms in retail trade
Special Correspondent
CHENNAI: The Pattali Makkal Katchi will continue its opposition to the entry of multinational companies in retail trade, party founder S. Ramadoss said on Saturday.
Inaugurating the Tamilnadu Flower, Vegetables, and Fruits Merchants Welfare Association at the Koyembedu market here, he claimed that the PMK was the first party in the country to protest against the entry of foreign firms into retail trade. The entry of big players into retail had affected small and marginal traders, who would ultimately be eliminated. Such a situation should not be allowed to happen, as lakhs of small and marginal traders would suffer.
Expressing concern over the unhygienic conditions at the wholesale market, Dr. Ramadoss wanted the Government to take steps to keep it clean. Even after 11 years, basic facilities at the market were woefully inadequate.
He wanted the traders to launch an agitation against the poor maintenance and assured them of his party’s support.
