Mayawati for removal of inequality

Staff Correspondent

“BSP to throw surprises in Himachal”

SHIMLA: Now working on the slogan of removal of economic disparity, instead of caste exploitation and power abuse, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati on Saturday exhorted the SCs, the STs, the OBCs and minorities to join her Bahujan Samaj Party and question the 60-year domination of the Congress and the BJP in this hill State.

“I am not against any religion or caste but against inequality,” she told an election rally here.

The BSP has fielded candidates for all Assembly seats in Himachal Pradesh. The party here is led by Maj. Vijay Singh Mankotia, formerly a Congressman and Minister in the Virbhadra government.

The BSP leader pleaded for reservation for lower castes and economically poorer sections in the private sector. The slogan Tilak, taraju and talwar (Brahmin, Baniya and Rajput), coined by the upper castes and used against the BSP, became outdated after she installed members of upper castes in positions of power in her party. Listing the pro-poor policies in her State, she expressed surprise at the Virbhadra government demolishing 5,000 hutments of the poor in the name of removing encroachments.

PTI adds:

Mayawati alleged the Congress and the BJP take funds from industrialists and cater to their economic interests by bending rules after coming to power. Earlier, she addressed a rally at Nalagarh in Solan district.
