Tiger Pataudi issued notice in property matter

Bhopal: The district administration has issued notices to the family of Nawab of Bhopal, including Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, for alleged unauthorised occupation of land worth hundreds of crores belonging to five villages.

“We have served nearly a dozen notices in five different cases to the family members of erstwhile Nawabs of Bhopal including Tiger Patuadi. They have been asked to respond by January 8, 2008,” Bhopal Collector R. K. Mathur told PTI.

He said an inquiry into the alleged land occupation by the family in these villages -- Behta, Borwan, Halalpur, Laukhedi and Nishatpura among others -- was conducted following a High Court order on August 31, 2004. After the inquiry into the records of five out of nine villages, it was found that as per the ‘merger agreement’ between them (Nawabs and the government) from 1949-50 to 1956 the land of these villages which was supposed to be the government’s land was wrongly entered into the revenue records as Nawab’s land. Since then it continued to be in their name, who subsequently sold most of the land, he said.

The probe into the remaining four villages was still going on.

However, sources in the district administration said that at that time most of the records were in Urdu and Persian languages and since the revenue officers during those days were unable to read it correctly, it was continued to be mentioned as the land of Nawabs. Later corrective measures were undertaken and action to acquire the government lad was initiated after a proper translation, an official said. PTI
