There will be fixed tenure for senior cops: Punjab DGP
Jalandhar: There will be fixed tenure for the DGP, SSPs and SHOs in Punjab Police, state Director General of Police N.P.S. Aulakh said on Saturday.
“The new Police Act will be implemented very soon with the recommendation of fixed tenure for the post of DGP, SSPs and SHOs,” Mr. Aulakh said. He was here in the city as chief guest on the occasion of inauguration of 56th All India Police Hockey Championship.
Asked about the vacant posts of senior superintendents of police in two districts of the State, the DGP said that since there was shortage of IPS officers in Punjab as no PPS officer could be promoted to the rank of IPS due to litigation problems, the posts could not be filled up. “Very soon heads of such districts will be appointed,” he added.
On the issue of recruitment and promotions in police force in the sports quota, Mr. Aulakh said consultation with State Sports Department was going on and accordingly amendment would be made in the Police Act.
Regarding on-going investigation into the Ludhiana cinema hall blast case, Mr. Aulakh claimed vital clues had been found.
The DGP avoided a query on installation of the portrait of Bhindrawale in the Golden Temple museum by the SGPC. He added that security would be tight during a protest called by the Shiv Sena on the issue on December 14. PTI
