Sibal clarifies statement on Sonia remark

New Delhi: Union Minister Kapil Sibal on Saturday denied having said that Congress President Sonia Gandhi had not referred to Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi in the connection with the “merchants of death” comment.

Mr. Sibal, a senior lawyer and a former Congress spokesperson, said, “I had never said that the remarks were meant or not meant for Modi.”

Mr. Sibal’s remarks came hours after All India Congress Committee officially disowned his remarks and said Ms. Gandhi did refer to Mr. Modi as the “merchants of death” and the party was not apologetic about it.

He said the controversy was due to a spin given by the media to his remarks. — PTI
